EIC Investment Income - Online Tax Resource

Earned Income Credit (EIC) Investment Income

The taxpayer cannot claim the Earned Income Credit unless the investment income is $2,700 or less. If the taxpayer's Investment Income is more than $2,650, the taxpayer cannot claim the credit. The taxpayer's Investment Income will be automatically calculated using the IRS specification. This income is determined by adding the following:

  • Interest & Dividends - from Schedule B
  • Capital Gains Net Income - from Schedule D
  • Royalties and Rental Income from Personal Property - from Schedule E
  • Passive Activities - from Schedule E

If the taxpayer's Investment Income is over $2,700 the taxpayer does not qualify for the EIC.
